Shaping Tomorrow's AI Leaders, Today
The Nigeria Artificial Intelligence Olympiad (NGAIO) is a national-level competition designed to inspire and engage young minds in the field of Artificial Intelligence. It serves as the official gateway for Nigerian students to participate in the International Olympiad on Artificial Intelligence. The Olympiad is open to secondary school students across Nigeria. Through this competition, participants demonstrate their programming proficiency in Python and their understanding of core AI concepts.
NGAIO is conducted in multiple phases, beginning with the preliminary selection round and culminating in the national round. At each stage, participants are encouraged to refine their problem-solving skills, strengthen their conceptual understanding, and deepen their interest in Artificial Intelligence. Outstanding performers advance to the next phase, with the final candidates earning the honor of representing Nigeria at the International Olympiad on Artificial Intelligence. From 2026 onward, a quiz competition has been introduced as an integral part of NGAIO to further stimulate curiosity and enthusiasm about AI among students, as well as to help them prepare for future editions of the Olympiad.
NGAIO is the first event in Nigeria, nurturing a new generation of AI enthusiasts and future innovators poised to contribute to the nation's technological advancement.
Students from any of the following education boards or systems are eligible to participate, provided they are not older than 20 years in the year of the Olympiad:
